Hi, and welcome to Project Management for Engineers.

My name is Mark Warner. I'm a professionally licensed engineer (PE) and a certified project management professional (PMP). I've been an engineer for over 30 years, and have been an engineering manager for the past 15 of those. I've worked in aerospace, education, heavy construction, and R&D. I'm the author of five non-fiction books, over 100 technical papers, and hold a handful of patents in my name. I have lived all throughout the continental US, in Hawaii, and in Europe.  I consider myself well-versed in most engineering disciplines, as well as project management fundamentals.

This blog is my way of giving back to the engineering management community. I've worked on a dozen different engineering projects in my career, ranging from very small to very large, and I have seen many examples of what works and what doesn't in project management. My own specialty is in the management of large, complex, multi-year science-related engineering projects. For example, my current position is that of Deputy Project Manager on the $350M, 10-year long, Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST) design and construction project (click here for more information on DKIST). It's an exciting and highly rewarding endeavor-- but it's also been very challenging at times. The lessons I've learned on just this one project could fill a book-- or at least a blog! And in fact, that's my intention; I'm using this blog to write down and capture some of the key methods, principles, lessons, and takeaways I've gleaned from the past 30 years.
